I recently took the BT Web Hosting and BT Advanced Web Hosting to gain access to all the advanced options and tools.
I wanted to maintain my .co.uk domain as my primary domain and have all the advanced tools available to this domain such as EasySiteOptimizer. When I went to activate the two web hosting packages there was no option to select my .co.uk domain, only my .org.uk domain. I contacted technical help who took control of my machine and activated the web hosting using my .org.uk domain which I understand means I can't make my .co.uk domain the primary domain. At the same time the advanced web hosting package was still to be activated but had no means to do it. I was informed that this was not a problem as it was activated although it doesn't show it. Left it for 24hrs and went back and it was still not activated. When I took out another domain name it then became available for activation but only option was to use the new domain name of .org. Now have three domains when I only want .co.uk. Can't redirect my domains to .co.uk and only have the advanced tools on my .org domain.
Feel let down as I called help desk because the site told me that if I choose primary domain I can't change it, so I wanted to know why I couldn't see the option of choosing my .co.uk domain. They had control and they said it was okay and now appear to be stuck.
Anyone know how to get round this problem?
Iain
Solved! Go to Solution.
I have the same problem Iain, I will let you know what the results are if I get to the bottom of it.
If you find anything out can you email me <email address removed by moderator>. Maybe handy if we keep contact regarding future problems.
I am familiar with most of the web problems but this one has driven me mad.

Hi Iain-gibb,
I have looked over your account and can see where the confusion has risen.
You have a '.co.uk' domain which had the starter webhosting already and you have been using this for a while. This is a primary domain name for the starter hosting package. Instead of upgrading the webhosting on this package from starter to advanced, you have ordered 2 brand new hosting packages, an advanced and another starter pack.
With each hosting package you are supplied a new 'free' domain name to use (or you can select the hosting be used for a domain not with BT Business). As your domain '.co.uk' is already taken (and assigned to your starter package) when you have tried to activate the new advanced hosting package it has asked for a domain. You can’t assign the ‘.co.uk’ domain to it, as that already has it’s own hosting package. You ordered a new domain '.org' and assigned that to your advanced webhosting.
When you have activated your other starter pack, again it would ask for a domain. Your '.co.uk' domain is already assigned to a starter pack, and there is an 'org' domain assigned to an advanced hosting, so it asked you to order a new free domain for this hosting and so you have ordered and purchased a third domain '.org.uk'.
So basically you have three separate Webhosting packages and 3 separate primary domains. You can check these are primary domains by logging into My Office and going to ‘Manage Services’. Under the Domain section you will see a Pie Chart, which has ‘3 primary domains’. Also if you go to webhosting and select ‘manage webhosting and online stores’ you will see that you have 3 webhosting packages and the primary domain attached to each webhosting package.
If you want, to upgrade a current starter webhosting package to an advanced package (such as your .co.uk domain). What you would need to do is:
I hope this helps
Kind Regards

Thanks for detailed response. I had thought that I had bought an upgrade. Can I know reduce the two new web hostings to standard and increase my .co.uk to advanced?
I must say that I read everything very carefully online before I upgraded and yet I obviously made a mistake, which to be honest is not like me. Perhaps the site needs to make things clearer. Surely when I contacted your technical support they could have seen this was the problem?
Anyway, glad there is a solution. I will follow your instructions, carefully!!!!
Iain
Hi Iain
I'm sorry about the confusion, i will have a look at the other two domain accounts, the .org and .org.uk, and see what we can do with them. I will send you a private mail about this.
If you upgrade the .co.uk domain you should be able to start using the advanced hosting when the upgrade completes. You will be able to see in 'manage webhosting' that it has changed to manage advanced hosting, on the .co.uk domain.
Kind Regards

Okay, now have advanced web hosting on my .co.uk domain. How do I get rid of advanced web hosting on my .org account since I don't want to pay for a service I don't need? Can I now easily point my other primary domain names to my .co.uk domain and will I have do anything in the advanced settings. I assume I can do this by URL and not frame.
Iain
Hi
Did you get my private message? Or have you managed to get this resolved through the technical helpdesk itself?
Kind Regards

Hi
Sorry for delay. Have resolved issues as suggested but did not get your direct email. Could you send again as I would like to reduce the web hosting provisions on the the other primary domains.
Thanks
Iain
Hi Iain, unfortunately BT deleted my email address as it is against their policy to show it on here.
However if you go to my website www.harrisentertainments.org.uk/music you can contact me from there.
Thanks Lisa
