I cannot set up my email to read and send emails since the 365 upgrade. I have trawled through the messageboard and tried various things. I am not concerned about settings related to outlook as these appear to not aid in any way regarding the iPhone. I should be able to set up through the Microsoft Exchange option but this is not possible.
I am now at the point of closing BT email address altogether.
Can anyone help?

First, may I ask how did you try to set up your BT email account to your iPhone including the incoming and outgoing mail server as well as the ports you used?

When you are setting up your Iphone for using the new BT office 365 servers, you are only able to set it up as an exchange account, if you pay the extra for a Office 365 premium account.
If you do not pay the extra for the premium account you will need to setup the email account as a pop account. The server settings for a pop account are the same if you use outlook, windows mail, mac mail, thunderbird or a phone.
The settings for a pop account are
incoming server pop.outlook.com port 995 with SSL
outgoing server smtp.outlook.com port 587 set as TLS or SSL depenging on what type of encryptrion the program supports.
If you do pay the extra for Office 365 premium the server address is m.outlook.com and the domain is m.outlook.com using SSL.

I have an iphone 4 on vodafone, and can recieve email but not send it using by bt connect account (now outlook 365)
hot mail account works fine, the settings all seem to be as shown in these threads any ideas?
