Static IP addresses and RDP

Oh boy am I aggrivated at this setup...

A task which should be as simple as assigning the static IP addresses to the devices I want remote access to and which also should have an internal IP address so that it is all on the same intranetwork is made complicated because of how BT have decided to still use dynamic addressing even though you have a specific IP address reserved as a network address.

Any ideas why I can't rdp to a machine that has been set with a static IP from an external network? Yet works fine when connecting internally? (I say internally, but it's not really as it doesn't have an internal IP address, but when connected via the hub, the static IP connects the rdp session.)

This addressing method is odd and doesn't allow me to connect to my sharing software internally, I'm guessing because of the public IP...?
