Use BT Business Infinity broadband with 'cable' wireless router

Hi all,

I'd like to replace our BT Business Hub 5 with a router that supports guest networks. We're set up to use the VDSL modem within the BH5, so don't have an openreach modem.

I understand that if we were to have an openreach modem, it would be a simple case of plugging in a 'cable' or non-modem router into the modem. Since we are however on the direct VDSL connection type, this doesn't look possible. I have looked at the range of integrated-VDSL routers and am not particularly impressed.

Therefore, can I use a cable router, such as the Buffalo WZR-900DHP-EU or, most likely, the ASUS RT-N66U, and connect it to one of the Business Hub's LAN ports? I have read that this is possible by putting the BH5 into 'bridged' mode, but am unsure and don't want to commit to the purchase before I'm sure it will work.

Hi there,

Yes, as long as the new router has a WAN port you can put the BH into bridge mode and connect to any one of it's LAN ports.

Settings for the new router are PPPoE VPI:0 VCI:35 Encapsulation:LLC/SNAP Authentication:CHAP/PAP

you could get a draytek vigor 130 vdsl modem, setup your cable router to login to your network

you can just plug and play the above modem
