VOIP call bandwidth requirements

I need to understand how much dedicated bandwidth each VOIP call requires. I have 2mbps of bandwidth (On an 8mb service!!) and I am worried that the quality of service will be poor as I am also using b/width for normal internet services. I can dedicate bandwidth to provide a basic QOS on my router, but as it's for business I don't want to shell out on an IP phone without ensuring the calls will be professional.

Depending on call quality selected it can be up to 125kbps.

I was always sceptical about voice quality on VOIP - but finally made the jump and do not regret it.   I use the dedicated port on the 2701 router to an analogue phone, or BT Communicator software on my PC and quality is excellent.

I have run a full download/upload using the remainder of my bandwidth during a call and the quality does not change.

Download the software and try it out.

It is markedly better than Skype - in fact a league ahead.
