microsoft ip's inaccessible

spiders-design

I cannot access microsoft sites like microsoft.com. First to eliminate suggestions:

Not computer: tested on multiple computers

It is resolving correct IP from DNS server

Ping requests timeout on cmd

It has been happening for ages

I can access it through a proxy

I have rebooted router (and therefore got a new IP)

I have tried with Google DNS (what I was originally on) and BT assigned DNS (I changed to eliminate that as a possibility)

Anyone else having same problem and can BT sort it out. I would have used there live chat but the amount of details I have to dig up to start that just wasn't worth it.

have you tried something like malwarebytes anti-malware, to make sure all the machines on your network havent been infected with something?

check the hosts file on your machines as well, it can be found 'C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc' remove the quotes. it maybe that microsoft websites have been redirected to local loopback(127.0.0.1) so an entry may look like this

207.46.197.32 localhost

I have checked the hosts file. And the problem occurs on ipods, laptops and everything - they couldn't all have been infected.

when you say you tried the bt dns servers, did you manually type them in or allow it to get automatically.

could you give us a clue as to what equipment your using?

I checked the automatically assigned DNS box. I have a netgear voyager 2100 connected to the phoneline with 4 PCs (2 desktops, 1 laptop, a mac) All computers have the same problem including ipod touches connected. I have a spare 2100 (although it crashes when 2 pcs are connected) that I can try to eliminate that possibility. The only thing I can think of is that because I have downloaded a lot from MSDN (I have an MSDN subscription and make use of it) BT have decided to block me from the site, If this is the case I would appreciate being told for starts and for seconds that is completely unacceptable for a Unlimited Business broadband package.

i doubt bt would intentionally block microsoft websites, they may slow your connection if downloading a large amount of data over a month(currently 300 odd GB).

it could just be a dns problem on the bt network, they seem to be having a fair few problems recently
