Reliable and fast internet access has become essential for UK businesses of every size. Whether you’re running cloud apps, handling customer payments, or supporting remote workers, a strong digital foundation keeps everything moving. Full Fibre, also known as Fibre to the Premises (FTTP), delivers fibreoptic connectivity directly into your building, offering speeds up to 900Mbps and far greater stability than copper based alternatives.
What full fibre really means and why it matters
Full Fibre is a modern broadband technology that uses fibreoptic cables from the exchange straight into your premises. Unlike traditional part fibre (Fibre to the Cabinet or FTTC), it avoids using copper for the final stretch, meaning your speed doesn’t drop because of distance, weather, or local congestion. This gives businesses the consistent, high-performance connection needed for video calls, large file sharing, and cloud-based workflows. BT Business makes full use of this technology, delivering ultrafast speeds up to 900Mbps, with significantly stronger upload performance than older copper networks.
If you’re unsure whether Full Fibre is available where you work, Openreach provides the most up-to-date view of their UK rollout. Their national-build programme aims to reach 25 million homes and businesses by the end of this year, with plans to expand to 30 million by 2030. Their interactive Fibre Checker lets you enter a postcode to see if Full Fibre is live now, planned soon, or currently being built, and it’s updated throughout the year.
A choice of full fibre packages to suit every business
BT Business offers a wide range of Full Fibre speeds, including 100, 150, 300, 500, and 900Mbps, ensuring there’s an option for every type of organisation. Smaller teams may find 100Mbps more than enough for email, video calls, and cloud storage, while growing SMEs or digital heavy businesses benefit from the higher tier 500Mbps and 900Mbps options. The speed options available are dependent on the infrastructure to your premises. If you’re currently using a copper or part fibre connection (sometimes called Essential or Enhanced Broadband and Standard Fibre respectively) you can look to upgrade if Full Fibre is available to you, even if you’re still in contract.
Ready for the UK’s digital future
With the nationwide switch-off of the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) due in 2027, businesses must move to all digital phone systems. Full Fibre integrates seamlessly with BT’s digital solutions, helping organisations stay compliant and ready before legacy copper services disappear. Combined with strong UK wide rollout progress and flexible package options, Full Fibre gives companies the reliable digital infrastructure needed to grow confidently in the years ahead.
Frequently asked questions we get about Full Fibre
Can I keep my number? We have several digital phone options you can look to port your number onto. However, you don’t need a phone number with Full Fibre, so this is the time to think about what your business needs.
Will I lose service when moving onto Full Fibre? No, your existing line should stay active until your new Full Fibre connection is up and running, outside of exceptional circumstances.
Will my router work on Full Fibre? If you’re using a BT Business router, the BT Business Hub 5 and all BT Business Smart Hubs are compatible with Full Fibre. If you use a 3rd party router, you will need to check with the manufacturer if it’s Full Fibre compatible. If you’re using an old router, we can send out an up-to-date router as part of the Full Fibre upgrade order. You can see our video guides on how to install our router on our YouTube channel.
Why can’t I stay on copper? As part of the nationwide PSTN switch-off, all service providers utilising the Openreach network are contacting their customers about switching to a digital line urgently. The same reasons they are turning off the PSTN network (primarily aging infrastructure resulting in more faults) also applies to any broadband using copper. Full Fibre provides a more reliable connection which is why we highly encourage all customers with the option available to them to consider moving over sooner rather than later to avoid any issues caused by the network switch-off.
Do I have to dig up my drive? Not necessarily! Each order is subject to survey and Openreach will arrange for an engineer to come out and have a look at how they can provide the connection to your property. Sometimes, this will require them coming on-site, or sometimes this can be done externally. If you already have a Full Fibre box at your premises, sometimes it can even be turned on remotely!
Why isn’t it available for me? Openreach are responsible for the network throughout the country roll-out and there are many factors that go into making Full Fibre available in an area such as permissions to work, ducting and complex underground issues. Distance can also impact getting Full Fibre as more rural areas are typically further away from the exchanges that supply the broadband.
