UK businesses are losing valuable productivity to sickness and stress, but better workplace technology could help turn that around.

New research from BT Business suggests that upgrading connectivity and digital tools could give employers the equivalent of nine extra productive days per employee by 2030. That’s roughly the same amount of time currently lost to sick leave each year.

With stress and mental health now major drivers of absence, employees are looking to technology for support. Nearly three quarters of workers believe innovations like AI will improve efficiency, and two thirds say it could help them achieve a better work life balance. Yet many are being held back by outdated systems, poor connectivity and a lack of training - to the point where one in four have considered leaving their job due to tech frustrations.

The opportunity is clear. Across sectors like retail, finance and healthcare, modern and reliable connectivity combined with the right skills and training could reduce burnout, improve job satisfaction and boost productivity.
