I'm in the process of transferring around 20 Plusnet BB lines in 6 counties to BT Business. It has not been a smooth transition as I have had issues with around 1/3 of them ! However this latest fiasco has got me stumped.
BT is now telling me that they cannot take over an existing Plusnet FTTC BB line as SOGEA is not available at the location ???
Not sure exactly what SOGEA is, but does BT really need SOGEA just to take over an existing FTTC BB line ?
I was originally offered to have the line upgraded to FTTP, but Openreach then said they cannot do this unless, the outbuilding we have the existing PN BB in, is given its own Post Code ??? WTF !
Giving one of the outbuilding a separate post code on a secure site is not only impractical, as the site only has one entrance and one main building to which post can be delivered to, but completely illogical and I suspect an excuse just to cancel the order.
Anyone else had an issue like this or has any helpful suggestions ?
Thanks, Dave.
BT’s response about SOGEA is a bit misleading—SOGEA (Single Order Generic Ethernet Access) is just the newer way of providing FTTC without a phone line, but it isn’t strictly required to take over an existing Plusnet FTTC service. What’s happening is likely a database/addressing mismatch in Openreach’s records, which is why they’re insisting on a separate postcode for the outbuilding. In practice, you should push back via BT Business escalations or request an Openreach survey, as others have resolved similar issues by correcting the site address rather than creating a new postcode.
