BT Quantum: system programming and the web interface

The BT Quantum phone system is no longer supported by BT Business. Support ended on 30 September 2025, and we won't update this page if anything changes with the product.

We've brought our BT Quantum admin help together in one post. It covers managing your system from a PC, logging in, entering system programming from a phone, setting the date and time, and changing your on-hold music. 

 

Managing your system from a PC

The web interface lets you manage your whole BT Quantum from a PC, in a web browser. Everything's grouped into six categories: 

  •        System - system-wide functionality. 
  •        PBX - system-wide features of the voice application. 
  •        Lines - lines and line-related functions. 
  •        Extensions - extensions and extension-related functions. 
  •        Data - broadband, wireless, router and firewall settings. 
  •        Diagnostics - status information and testing functions. 

You'll need a PC that can reach the Base Module over your LAN. To connect one: 

  •          On the Digital Base Module, connect to the single LAN port. If you don't have structured cabling in place, you can connect the PC directly. 
  •          On the IP Base Module, connect to any of the LAN ports. 

BT Quantum supports Microsoft Internet Explorer 8 and Mozilla Firefox 3.6. 

 

Logging in to the web interface

The web interface is the main way to programme your BT Quantum. To log in: 

  1.      In your web browser, enter the LAN IP address 192.168.199.1 or http://lan.home. Check that your browser settings are correct and your network proxies are switched off. 
  2.      On the Login page, enter the username and password. The default combination is user/user for username/ password. It's a good idea to change the default password when you log in. 
  3.      When you first log in, the home page shows a summary of status information for your system. 

 

Entering system programming from a phone

Some system functions can also be managed from the programming extension. By default, this is extension 201, and the PIN is 1111. You can change both in programming. 

To access system programming from the programming extension: 

  1.      From the programming extension, press the Program key. 
  2.      Select System Program. 
  3.      Enter the system programming password. 

Not sure which extension is the programming extension? Try to access programming from each extension in turn. You'll need a systemphone plugged into each one to test it. Only the programming extension will show the System Program option. 

 

Setting the date and time

You can set the time and date from the web interface or from the programming extension. 

From the web interface: 

  1.      Go to the web interface top-level menu. 
  2.      Select System / Time and Date. The current settings show at the top of the page. 
  3.      Enter the time in the Time box, in 24-hour HHMM format: for example, 2pm as 1400. 
  4.      Press Submit. 
  5.      Enter the date in the Date box, in DDMMYY format: for example, 10 December 2011 as 101211. 
  6.      Press Submit. 

You must enter both the time and the date. If you enter one without the other, you'll get an error message, and the change won't be accepted. 

From the programming extension: 

  1.      Enter system programming 
  2.      Select Time and date. 
  3.      Enter the time in 24-hour HHMM format. The display will prompt for a date. 
  4.      If you only want to set the time, select Confirm and you'll go back to the idle screen. 
  5.      To change the date, enter it in DDMMYY format: for example, 10 December 2010 as 101210. 
  6.      Select Confirm. 

 

Changing your on-hold music

There are three on-hold options for your BT Quantum: music, tone and silence. 

From the web interface: 

  1.      Open and log in to the web interface. 
  2.      Select PBX / System Setting to open the System Settings page. 
  3.      From the Music on Hold source drop-down, select Music, Silence, Tone – an intermittent tone - or External, which is music from an external source. 
  4.      Select Submit. 

From the programming extension: 

  1.      From the programming extension (201 by default), press the Program key. 
  2.      Select System Program. 
  3.      Enter the system programming password (1111 by default). 
  4.      Select Music on hold, then select one of: Internal Source, External, Tone on Hold, or Silence. The solid square shows the current setting. 
  5.      Press the Hands-free key to finish. 

To use an external music source, plug it into the music on hold 3.5mm stereo jack on the Base Module.
