Large files will not download

I have a BT2700HGV with Hardware version 2701-100589-005 and Firmware version 6.3.9.63-plus.tm.  Any attempt to download a file over 2GB will not work, the downloads will not start at all and even when I download a smaller file, the interent speed grinds to a halt.  

Are there any suggestions or work arounds to this issue or should I replace the router?

The isssue you have is a problem with the firmware of the 2Wire 2700/2701 routers, if you go to this Mountain Lion post, there us a post by Stephenc on how to work around the problem.
