BTConnect email addresses and how to access your email

There's been a number of posts on here asking about the future of BTConnect email addresses. Just to confirm - there's currently no plans to remove BTConnect email addresses, the only change is that basic authentication has been replaced by modern authentication so you will need to log in via webmail to access your emails now. You can find out more here in our FAQs.

How can I access my btconnect.com mailbox?

You can access your mailbox:

  • At outlook.office.com (this is browser-based access).
  • Via business.bt.com, My Account (which links to office.com).
  • Using the Outlook Application on mobile devices.

I don't know my password

The username and password used to access your btconnect.com mailbox are the same as you use to login in to My Account.

Find out how to recover your login details.

Hi KamalH

If you cancel the services your BTConnect emails are linked to, you will lose access to the mailboxes.

Hi  Beth

But how do we increase storage of emails. I have already had to archive a few years ago thousands of btconnect emails due to the change in security settings (which was completely useless for long term BT business users). Why did BT capitulate to Microsoft in agreeing a max of 0.95GB email storage? Is it a BT policy decision to exit business email provision by compelling customers to migrate? Thanks.

Hi Beth,
I am wanting to access my BT Connect email address using the Outlook Application on Windows not Mobile.
Please can you advise how to do this?

The reason I am wanting to do this is so I can export my emails as a PST file so that I can import my emails into my new email account. If I cannot login to BT Connect using Outlook for Windows can you advise how I can get a PST of my emails please?

Hi BethM - not sure if you will pick up this old topic - I have the same thing as KamalH - we had a small business account that included web hosting that we never actually used but we continue to pay £14 per month for. We assume this is what our  btconnect addresses are tied to as they still work... sadly, whilst I've moved our final remaining employees to accounts using our business domain on a separate server/registrar, the 3 personal accounts I added for free all those years ago are proving ever more awkward to use... these are my long-time personal addresses for myself, wife and daughter ....  Whilst we've managed to navigate to use Outlook webmail to continue, it's still worrying .. quick questions :

1. Can I access the admin page anywhere for these old btconnect addresses anywhere ? I can't seem to find the right link ...

2. Does the btconnect server continue to work and be updated security-wise ? Or is it all a matter of time until it dies ?

3. I want to set up a personal microsoft account connected to these addresses - I managed it , but my daughters one only gets the response that its not possible as its a business address ..  any thoughts how your tech guys could "free-up" that address ?

4. Can I set up email forwarding on the btconnect.com addresses ?

thanks for any updated advice if you or one of your team gets this , best, Alan Morton

Hi AlanProactive

You should be able to manage the mailboxes in My Account.

There are currently no plans to completely cancel BTconnect mailboxes however I would encourage everyone to be mindful of the terms and conditions which stipulate:

BT Business Email Lite powered by Microsoft Office 365

5.14.1 BT may, without notice delete any email account (including a sub-account), Mailbox and associated content and terminate the Service if the account has not been accessed for any continuous period of 90 days. BT will not be liable to you where the deletion or termination results in your failure to perform any of your obligations under the Contract.

If you cancel the associated BT Business service, you will lose the mailboxes. There is no way to retain them. I would recommend looking at moving over to a more suitable product if you require an email address without this BT Business service.

You should not be able to connect any other mailboxes to these BTconnect email addresses. You can follow the steps to set up email forwarding here.
